Overview
The project consists of expanding King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA). KAIA expansion to be developed in three (3) phases. Phase One, which started in 2015, will provide 46 gates for international and domestic flights, add an airport station to the Haramain Railway, build an onsite airport hotel, and a multi-level parking garage, renovation of the existing South and North Terminals and upgrades to the existing runway and airfield systems to accommodate the Airbus A380. The project is designed to increase the airport’s yearly capacity from 13 million to 80 million passengers. The estimated cost of the expansion is $4 billion.

ACTS scope of work included deploying more than 300 QC technicians, providing quality assurance for over 15 batching plants and quarries from Jeddah and Makkah regions, testing of 4,000,000 m3 of concrete in a short period of time (>500,000 cylinders for strength, and >100,000 for durability), performing geotechnical investigation including soil testing and calculation of bearing capacity, and testing the steel using NDT for welding. Furthermore, ACTS created and established a technical department to oversee the quality of the provided services. The estimated total value of performed and on-going services is $20 M

The project is currently on-hold, and it is not clear when the work will be resumed.
