ACTS Annual Leading Future Concrete Construction Conference 2025

The Future Concrete Construction Conference 2025, held on April 24 at the Order of Engineers and Architects in Beirut, Lebanon, brought together the region’s leading professionals, academics, innovators, and students to explore the developments in concrete technology. Under the theme of "Concrete Durability and Structural Integrity," the conference served as a vital platform for advancing the region’s environment and infrastructure resilience.

 

A Collaborative Initiative by Industry Leaders

The conference was organized by Advanced Construction Technology Services (ACTS) with the support of the Lebanese Concrete Society and the ACI Lebanon Chapter. It was held in collaboration with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and ASTM International, and further strengthened through key partnerships with Cimenterie Nationale and Sibline.

Beyond technical insights, the conference created a vibrant networking atmosphere, offering industry professionals, academics, and students the opportunity to connect, share ideas, and discuss the future of concrete technology. Attendees engaged in meaningful conversations, exchanged innovative concepts, and explored potential collaborations, enhancing the sense of community within the construction sector.

 

 

The Conference Agenda

The day-long conference featured a rich lineup of technical sessions and keynote presentations led by experts from across the industry. Below is a summary of the key sessions:

 

  • Welcome Speech by Eng. Khaled Awad, Chairman of ACTS, set the tone by emphasizing the urgency of sustainable infrastructure development.

 

  • Eng. Fadi Hanna, President of the Order of Engineers and Architects in Beirut, delivered a powerful Keynote Speech spotlighting the need for modern concrete solutions in Lebanon.

 

  • Eng. Adib Hachem, CEO of Sibline, discussed the challenges and opportunities in the Lebanese cement market.

 

 

  • Eng. Ahmad Mhanna, Director MENA Region at ACI, delivered a practical session on Concrete Repair and ACI Resources.

 

  • Eng. Bechara Ammar, from Saint-Gobain, presented innovative concrete repair solutions and real-world case studies, showcasing the company's commitment as Platinum Sponsor.

 

  • Eng. Charbel Ghanem, from Dar Al Handasah, discussed retrofitting heritage structures, underlining the balance between preservation and modernization.

 

  • Eng. Nancy Nakhel of CCL presented repair methodologies for existing buildings with a focus on implementation challenges and successes.

 

 

  • Eng. Salim Merhej, from Bureau d’Etudes Rodolphe Mattar, shared advanced methodologies for seismic retrofitting of reinforced concrete buildings.

 

  • Eng. Rodolph Abou Jaoude, Head of Concrete Consultancy at ACTS, delivered an essential talk on non-destructive testing and service life assessments of existing structures.

 

Students Engagement: ACI Egg Protection Device Competition

One of the most interactive segments was the ACI Egg Protection Device Competition, held in collaboration with Cimenterie Nationale. Mr. Walid Beaino and Mr. Elias Chahine celebrated student innovation and engineering creativity by awarding outstanding designs, reinforcing industry-academic engagement.

 


Here are the top three winners:

Third place: University of Balamand – Mostafa El Helo & Nabil Mohammad, supervised by Dr. Firas Barraj.

 

Second place: American University of Beirut (AUB) – Hassan Jichi & Louay Baalbaki, supervised by Dr. Helmi El Khatib.

 

First place: University of Balamand – Nizar Alawar & Joseph Yammine, supervised by Dr. Abdul Kader El Mir.

The first place won a trip to the ACI Fall Convention 2025 in Baltimore, USA! 🎉
